In 1929, three San Antonio doctors bought farmland northeast of the city on a calculated bet that the military airfield being planned across the Union Pacific tracks would make the land more valuable. They were right. The tract was named "Universal City" to reflect the universal importance of the neighboring installation. Businesses followed along what would become Pat Booker Road.
